The Spring Clean

Hi & welcome to the second edition of STIMULUS News!

The theme for this newsletter is the spring clean: de-cluttering your body and your mind. Spring is not just an opportunity to clean your house, spring represents a shake-off of the old. So as well as de-cluttering your house and wardrobe, look to de-cluttering your mind and body.

Events
It’s been an exciting three months since January: four events were run this quarter and all were very energising, worked well and received positive feedback. There are reviews in this issue of all four sessions.
Life Coaching has also got off to a great start and is going from strength to strength. Some of the many benefits of Life Coaching are detailed in this edition.

The STIMULUS opt-in page is set to become a full website complete with a members’ area to which individuals can subscribe and take advantage of  discounts, special offers & free information. The site will be launched in April.
STIMULUS also had a stand at the LeicestHerday conference, which sparked great interest and proved to be very successful.

Lastly, STIMULUS is now involved in an enterprise still in its infancy in the UK that allows individuals 24 hour-a-day access to some of the most brilliant personal development minds in the world. Check out the Mindset to Success website on page 3.

Hope you have a great Spring! See you in the Summer!

Spring Clean Your Mind & Body

The Mind
Throw out your old less than positive mindset with your dated clothes, books, magazines and old furniture.

What negativity are you harbouring in your thinking? What have you been convincing yourself you cannot do? Did you set any goals at the beginning of the year? If so, are you on track?

What do you need to step up in order to reach your goals? Can you break down your yearly goals, so you have quarterly targets? This will make your goals seem less daunting.

The Body
We tend to eat stodgier food during the winter to give our body the necessary level of fuel and energy it needs to cope with the cold.
Spring is an opportunity to de-tox. A good, inexpensive way to begin doing this is to drink as much plain water as you can (either hot or cold – but not ice cold) with a bit of lemon in it.

This is great for clearing your system, hydrating the body and helping to raise your energy levels to name but a few advantages.
In addition you can buy fruit & vegetables from the market and experiment with liquidising different combinations. This not only boosts your immune system by feeding your body with enzymes but also helps your mental clarity.

Why Life Coaching?

“Got to get to work…need to drop off the kids…must phone that guy today…is that the time?!… WHERE are my car keys?..gonna be late for my meeting…ooh the gas bill…!”

Sound familiar? We are living in a fast-moving world of full-time jobs, house and family, studying or even part- or full-time business commitments.

The need for us to be able to multi-task, multi-think and multi-juggle(!) has never been greater.

There are times, however, when the pressure of just having to live in a fast-moving society can take its toll. If we fail to find suitable coping mechanisms and ways to mentally ‘compartmental-ise’ our thinking about the activities we undertake, we risk shutting down not only physically but also psychologically.

Identifying blockages
When we feel we have lost the thread of our lives, our minds are a muddle, or we feel we are wading through treacle just to get through the day, it can be helpful to turn to someone who is not a counsellor or therapist, but a coach who will help you identify what is blocking you from functioning at your best or progressing in your life. This is the role of a Life Coach.

Once these blockages have been identified the Life Coach works with the client to devise an action plan designed to create an inner shift sufficient to move the client out of the rut in which s/he finds him/herself and into a better mental and physical ‘space’.

Seminars & Events Update

Four successful events were held last quarter and the feedback from all four was extremely positive.

The Wellbeing, Health & Positive Empowerment Day focused on how to minimise stress and improve your health – this was held at the African Caribbean Centre. The day was split between STIMULUS and a nutritional company representative who demonstrated how fat can be a major factor in heart disease and how it can be avoided.

Setting Inspirational Goals & Planning for Success focused on how we can use our intuition to set goals that actually work for us and plan ahead successfully on the back of those goals.

Taking Your Life to the Next Level & The Business Mind were both full-day events.

Four different personal development areas combined to form Taking Your Life to the Next Level: communication, confidence & self esteem building, combating self limiting beliefs and organisational skills. The aim was for delegates to look at where they are now in their lives - and establish their ‘current level’ in all of the four areas - then to establish what they need to put in place to literally take their life to the next level.

The Business Mind focused on those in business and served as an excellent grounding in how our thinking needs to be stepped up from the 9-5 mentality to the business mentality in order for us to excel.

Developing a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA)

Positive thinking, or having a positive mental attitude (PMA) is the ability to focus on what is working well in your life, your strengths and those of others and the learning that comes from all experiences whether good or bad, empowering or crushing.
“With Positive Mental Attitude, failure is a learning experience, a rung on the ladder, a plateau at which to get your thoughts in order and prepare to try again.”

The above quote by W. Clement Stone, demonstrates that whether you fail or whether you succeed is up to you, and the attitude that you adopt to ‘failure’ and ‘success’. Personal development specialists suggest we have the power to decide how we react to a situation whether or not we are able to control it. Our attitude, therefore, towards success and failure could be said to be a crucial factor in determining whether or not we move forward in life.

One branch of psychology (known as Cognitive Therapy or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) looks at positive thinking in terms of slowing down and then analysing the racing, repetitive thoughts that can sometimes lead to behavioural issues such as anxiety and/or depression.

Tools, Techniques & Tips to develop PMA

Focus on your plus points
Focusing on your positive points gives them more credence, weight and significance than your not-so-good points.

Positive self talk
Positive self talk is making what you say to yourself on a daily basis as optimistic as possible, so that you can favourably influence your emotions, outlook and actions. An example of this is: I always do the best I can with the resources I have

Ask why not
If you find yourself saying ‘I can’t’, try turning it around and asking ‘why can’t I?’ or even ‘How can I?’ This creates distance between you and the goal you are trying to achieve, which gives you a slightly more objective viewpoint.
